Canada Tibet Committee
The Canada Tibet Committee (CTC), formed nationally in
1987, is a registered, non-profit organization with chapters
across Canada and headquarters in Montreal. The Victoria Chapter
of CTC, formed in 1988, actively works to increase awareness
of Tibet and Tibetans on local and national levels.
The CTC is a volunteer organization committed to non-violence,
funded by private donations, special events and membership. A
legitimate voice in Canada for Tibetans, each Chapter includes
a Tibetan within its executive.
The Canada Tibet Committee organizes:
- calls for universal human rights and freedoms for the Tibetan
people
- monitors and reports violations of human rights in Tibet
- information on the situation in Tibet and the history and
culture of the Tibetan people
lobbying of Canadian Members of Parliament, provincial and local
governments to act - quickly to help the Tibetan people
- information for the media about conditions in Tibet
- lectures, conferences, rallies and cultural events by working
with other international non-governmental organizations and Tibet
support groups
The Canada Tibet Committee is committed to drawing the attention
of Canadians and people world-wide, to the illegal occupation
of Tibet by the People's Republic of China and the resulting
human rights abuses and cultural genocide.
